Frequently asked questions

What extension does the result file use?

APNG is an extension of the PNG format, so the result file ends in .png. If the program opening it supports APNG, it plays as an animation; if not, only the first frame shows as a still image.

Will the quality be better than the GIF?

No. The original GIF's 256-color information is carried over as-is — no new colors are created. APNG's advantage is its expressiveness, including partial transparency, so an image that's already a GIF simply keeps its quality.

Are the playback speed and looping preserved?

The frame timing is kept intact, and the resulting APNG plays in an infinite loop.

Why is the media engine downloaded?

Animation conversion needs a processing engine that isn't built into browsers. About 32MB is downloaded once on first use, then served from cache, so subsequent conversions start right away.

Are my files sent anywhere?

No. Your files never leave your device. The conversion runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
