Frequently asked questions

What is the HEIC format?

It's the high-efficiency image format that iPhones and iPads use by default to save photos. It keeps files small, but it won't open on Windows or in some services, so people often convert it to JPG or PNG.

Should I choose JPG or PNG?

For regular photos, JPG is recommended because its files are smaller. Choose PNG if you need transparency or lossless output.

Are Live Photos converted too?

Only the photo portion is converted. The short video embedded in a Live Photo isn't included in the result.

Does my photo keep its location data?

No. The pixels are re-encoded into a new file, so the original metadata — including EXIF and GPS data — is not preserved.

Are my photos sent anywhere?

No. Photos are converted right in your browser and never uploaded anywhere. The HEIC decoder is downloaded once on first use; after that it's served from cache.
